Norwich City v Middlesbrough (Saturday 15th September, 3pm kick off) – Betting Preview

Daniel Farke’s Norwich have never really got going since the German took the helm at the start of last season, and his side will get no favours when second-placed Middlesbrough visit Carrow Road.

Tony’s Pulis’ Boro have a great chance of returning to the Premier League this year, and have started the season in great form. Four wins and two draws from their opening six games is a cracking return for the Teesiders, and with Norwich floundering at home, this is a golden opportunity for another three points.

The Middlesbrough away win is terrific value at 6/4 with Ladbrokes, and is going straight into my Championship Treble for the weekend. Norwich have conceded seven goals in their opening three games in Norfolk this season, while Boro are unbeaten in six on the road, spanning over to the backend of last season.

However, that stat doesn’t look so impressive when you discover that the visitors have drawn four of their last five away games. A draw is certainly not a bad result when going to Norwich, so 21/10 with Paddy Power for the stalemate certainly represents food for thought.

Goals may well be a premium in this one. Six of the last seven meetings between these two have seen under 2.5 goals. Neither side typically score goals by the bucket load at the best of times, so a repeat of the form book looks like a solid bet at 4/6 with Betfair.

The form of the two sides, coupled with the lack of goals between the two sides in recent years, makes me tempted to go for a small spot of spread betting here. Boro really should fancy themselves to win against a side that are there for the taking, so a tenner each on 1-0 (6/1) and 2-0 (10/1 – both with William Hill) is sure to deliver you some profit if Pulis and Co. do the business.

I can’t see anything other than a run-of-the-mill Boro victory that will see them retain their position in the top two of the Championship. Norwich don’t quite have enough firepower to hurt a steely Boro side, so an away win and clean sheet double looks like smashing value at 3/1 with Coral.

Championship Treble: £10 on Middlesbrough, Derby County and Brentford returns £88 with William Hill.
