The televised Championship game on Saturday evening sees newly-promoted Blackburn face an Aston Villa side that have flattered to deceive in the opening stages of the season.
After winning their opening two Championship games, Steve Bruce’s Villa have gone without a victory in the four matches since, including a defeat to League One Burton Albion in the League Cup and a 4-1 thrashing by Sheffield United just before the international break. All doesn’t seem quite well at Villa Park, and they face a very tough assignment at Ewood Park.
Blackburn may be sitting in an underwhelming 13th place in the Championship, but they have started life back in the second tier in relatively solid fashion. Tony Mowbray’s side are particularly strong on their own patch, having started the season unbeaten at Ewood Park. In fact, it’s almost a year to the day since their last league defeat at home, a 1-0 loss to AFC Wimbledon on the 16th of September 2017. With that in mind, 4/9 for the Blackburn or Draw double chance looks like a banker. If you’re brave enough, though, you should probably consider a go on the Blackburn home win at a lovely 17/10 with Ladbrokes.
If you’re a fan of both-to-score accumulators then this one is a pretty solid candidate. Despite their slow start, Villa have scored in all of their six Championship games this season, while the hosts have only failed to score once in the league so far. The fixture itself has a decent both-to-score record too, with five of the last six meetings seeing each side bag a goal. All signs are pointing towards a solid 20/23 shout in this one.
Bradley Dack could well find himself in the Premier League if he continues to shine in a Blackburn Rovers shirt. The 24-year-old playmaker already has four goals in all competitions this season, and everything good about Blackburn runs through the Englishman. If you want a first goalscorer bet for a bit of interest in this one, get on Dack at 7/1 with BoyleSports.
The televised games are always good ones to have a cheeky same-game multi to follow while you sip on your opening Saturday night beer, so my recommendation for this one is both teams scoring, Blackburn to have more corners over 90 minutes, and more than 30 booking points (10 points for a yellow, 25 for a red). A tenner on this returns around £70 with Paddy Power.
Championship Treble: £10 on Middlesbrough, Derby County and Brentford returns £88 with William Hill.
